Chu Jidong (褚继东)

Chu Jidong (褚继东) is a Falun Gong practitioner from Tianjin. The approximately 50-year-old employee of the China Petroleum and Natural Gas Pipeline Administration, who had been working in Qingyang City, Gansu Province and moved to Yinchuan in Ningxia to avoid persecution, was sentenced to 13 years in prison in April 2022.

According to Minghui.org, he was reported to be held at the Yinchuan City Detention Center following the sentencing, where he had been on hunger strike for at least 90 days to protest the persecution and was repeatedly force-fed. Two reports differ on the timing of his arrest: one states he was stopped and arrested by airport police in Yinchuan in March 2021 after they found a Falun Gong electronic book on his phone and a record of his earlier forced-labor term in the police database; another states he was arrested around January 2022 and admitted to the Yinchuan City Detention Center. The accounts are recorded here as reported; the discrepancy is unresolved.

Earlier, Chu was given three years of forced labor. According to Minghui.org, when his term ended, the Shuangkou Forced Labor Camp in Tianjin refused to release him and sent him straight to a brainwashing center.

Minghui reported in April 2025 that while serving his sentence at Shizuishan Prison in Ningxia, Chu was subjected to strict management, deprived of sleep, and forced to sit on small stools for long hours every day — one type of stool had a slanted surface and another had nearly 60 nails on it. He protested by shouting “Falun Dafa is good; Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance is good.” The authorities then transferred him to another prison but refused to tell his family where he was. A later report (April 14, 2026) lists him among seven practitioners “still being held in the 16th division” of Shizuishan Prison “at the time of this writing.” The two location reports conflict; his current place of detention is not verifiably established.
