Source chronology
- Human Rights Watch, September 2000. Nipped in the Bud: The Suppression of the China Democracy Party reports that Wu Yilong, Zhu Yufu, Mao Qingxiang and Xu Guang were tried by the Hangzhou Intermediate People’s Court on October 25, 1999. HRW says the prosecution cited the founding of the Opposition Party magazine, online CDP material, and links with overseas organizations; it reports that Wu received an eleven-year sentence. Source.
- Human Rights in China. “The rise and fall of the China Democracy Party” reports Wu’s 1998 organizing, expulsion from Zhejiang, detention in Guangzhou and Hangzhou in 1999, and prosecution later that year. Source.
- Chinese Human Rights Defenders, January 2009. A briefing identifies Wu as an activist and organizer for the CDP and spokesperson for its Zhejiang Provincial Preparatory Committee, reporting that parole was denied because he refused to admit guilt. Source.
- Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada, via ecoi.net. A compiled research response records an eleven-year sentence for Wu and identifies his online pro-democracy activity and CDP association. Source.
- Rights-defense roster, 2024. A later Zhejiang CDP roster compiled by Zhu Yufu and mirrored online lists Wu Yilong among members sentenced to prison, recording an eleven-year term. Source.
Date conflicts and evidence limits
Sources differ on the precise sentencing date. HRW dates the trial to October 25, 1999 and says sentencing followed roughly two weeks later; other institutional records give November 9, 1999, while a Canadian compilation uses October 25. The most defensible chronology is therefore: trial on October 25, 1999, eleven-year sentence in the following weeks, and appeal upheld in December 1999.
Institutional biographical records report that Wu completed the full eleven-year term and was released on September 14, 2010. No verified public record of his activities or whereabouts after 2012 was located in the prepared record; current residence and later activity are not inferred.
Source limits
No primary judgment or indictment has been recovered in the reviewed material. Some biographical and award details are preserved in institutional records located through secondary reference indexes; they are not treated here as independently verified primary-source facts.
