Mr. Wang Zexuan (汪泽宣) is a Falun Gong practitioner from Chishui City, Guizhou Province, currently serving a three-year-three-month prison sentence. He was arrested on August 9, 2023, together with fellow practitioner Liu Junmao, and sentenced in late December 2023 by a court in Zunyi. This is his fourth custodial term; he previously served two labor-camp terms and one prison term totaling seven and a half years.
Background
Mr. Wang is a native of Hejiang County, Sichuan Province. He worked as a substitute teacher and also opened a photography studio and a restaurant. He took up Falun Gong in 1997. Two months after the suppression began, he was arrested and detained for more than ten days. He was arrested again in early May 2000 and detained for an unknown length of time. For the next two decades he faced repeated harassment and arrests.
First term: two years in a forced-labor camp
For making informational materials about Falun Gong, Mr. Wang was arrested in March 2003 by police in Chishui City and given two years at the Guizhou Province Men’s Forced Labor Camp. Minghui reports that camp guards ordered inmates to beat him until he lost consciousness. He was released a year early.
Second term: three years in a forced-labor camp
Mr. Wang was arrested again in the winter of 2005 by police in Chishui and Hejiang. At the Chishui City Detention Center, guards tied him to a tree and whipped him with a leather belt, according to Minghui. He was taken to the Guizhou Province Men’s Forced Labor Camp in March 2006 to serve a three-year term. Minghui reports that on May 16, 2007, guards beat him to force him to renounce Falun Gong and then emptied a kettle of boiling water over him; he was severely burned and hospitalized for two months. He was released in November 2008.
Third term: three years and seven months in prison
Mr. Wang was arrested again on June 7, 2012, for distributing informational materials about Falun Gong in Luzhou City, which has jurisdiction over Hejiang. He was held at the Naxi District Detention Center in Luzhou; the Naxi District Court heard his case on January 10, 2014, and his family confirmed in late July 2014 that he had been sentenced to three years and seven months. He was transferred to Jiazhou Prison on November 5, 2014.
Current term: three years and three months
On August 9, 2023, Mr. Wang and fellow practitioner Liu Junmao were arrested in Chishui after being reported for talking to fellow guests about Falun Gong at a banquet. They were taken to the Chishui City Police Station and then transferred to detention centers in Zunyi — Mr. Wang to the Zunyi City No. 3 Detention Center. In late December 2023, a court in Zunyi convicted both: Liu Junmao was sentenced to three and a half years and Mr. Wang to three years and three months. Both appealed.

A note on sources
The case chronology draws on Minghui (minghui.org), a Falun Gong-affiliated news and information outlet. Minghui’s reporting is partisan: its accounts present the detention and prosecution as persecution and reflect the perspective of the Falun Gong community. No court document, state-media account, or independent international-media reporting on his case was found. The exact criminal charge in the 2023 case is not stated in the sources located.
