Yi Jiahai / 易家海 — Political Prisoner Profile

Yi Jiahai (易家海) is a retired elementary school principal from Macheng City, Hubei Province, and a Falun Gong practitioner who was sentenced to nine years in prison in early 2023. According to Minghui.org, a Falun Gong-affiliated news outlet, Yi and fellow practitioner Yan Yingzhong — both in their seventies — were seized from their homes on November 6, 2021 and taken to the Macheng City First Detention Center. Yi was later sentenced to a nine-year term, and both men were admitted to the Shayang Prison Group on June 14, 2023.

This was not Yi’s first detention. In October 2013 he was arrested at his home by Macheng police and sentenced to four years by the Macheng City Court on October 23, 2014, after which he was held in Fanjiatai Prison, according to Minghui reporting. The specific charge and trial details for the 2023 sentence have not been independently documented; Minghui reports that details of his indictment, trial, and sentencing remain under investigation.

The Rights Defense Network’s August 31, 2026 monthly report on political and conscience prisoners in mainland China lists Yi Jiahai (易家海) in its “sentenced to 9 years” group of forty-eight people — consistent with the nine-year term reported by Minghui — and classifies its entries as political prisoners and prisoners of conscience currently in custody.
