Yu Liqiu / 于立秋 — Political Prisoner Profile

Yu Liqiu (于立秋) is a Falun Gong practitioner from Dongfeng County in Liaoyuan City, Jilin Province, currently serving a three-year prison sentence imposed in early 2025. She was formerly a chemistry teacher at the Dongfeng County No. 3 Middle School.

On the evening of August 8, 2024, Yu was one of eight practitioners detained at a private home in Dongfeng County where they were studying Falun Gong teachings. Police raided the home, seized Falun Gong materials and personal property, and took Yu to the Liaoyuan City Detention Center under criminal detention. She stood trial together with five other practitioners at the Longshan District Court and was convicted; each of the six was sentenced to three years in prison and fined 10,000 yuan. The specific criminal charge and Yu’s current place of incarceration have not been publicly reported; a prisoners-of-conscience database records her term as ending in August 2027. Three of her six co-defendants were later released on medical parole; no release has been reported for Yu.

Yu had been detained for her faith before. On November 26, 2008, the Dongfeng County Court sentenced her to three years in prison. On December 21, 2017, she was detained again in Meihekou and subsequently sentenced to a term reported as either sixteen or eighteen months, which she served at the Jilin Province Women’s Prison. The two reports of that term’s length are unresolved.

Identity note: Yu Liqiu’s case is documented under the Chinese name 于立秋 by a prisoners-of-conscience database and Falun Gong-affiliated reporting covering the same six-person Dongfeng County case. Co-defendants’ accounts are documented separately; no individual is merged with another.
