Wang Yuhong (王玉红)
Wang Yuhong (王玉红) is a Falun Gong practitioner from Lindian County, Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province, who is serving a seven-year prison sentence imposed by the Ranghulu District Court of Daqing City on December 23, 2020, in a case involving six fellow practitioners.
Background
Wang Yuhong is a woman who was reported to be 54 years old in 2021. She lived in Lindian County and worked as an accountant at a privately run seed store. (A prisoner database records her birth year as 1958; case reports give her age as 54 in 2021. Her exact birth year is not independently confirmed.)
Detention and trial
On July 9, 2020, in an operation directed by the Heilongjiang Provincial Public Security Department, more than 50 plainclothes officers from the Daqing City Public Security Bureau and the Lindian County Public Security Bureau detained Wang along with fellow Lindian County practitioners Lu Chaobo, Zhang Wansheng, Jiang Hongjie, Dong Na, Xue Liwei, Chen Weibo, and Chen’s young child, who was released the same day. Six of the practitioners, including Wang, were tried by the Ranghulu District Court on December 15, 2020, in a remote video hearing.
On December 23, 2020, the court sentenced Wang Yuhong and Lu Chaobo to seven years’ imprisonment and fined each 70,000 yuan. Zhang Wansheng received six years, Xue Liwei and Chen Weibo four years each, and Dong Na three and a half years.
Appeals
Wang, Lu Chaobo, and Zhang Wansheng appealed to the Daqing City Intermediate People’s Court, which upheld the sentences on April 2, 2021. Wang’s family then petitioned for a retrial; in August 2021 the intermediate court upheld the sentence again.
Imprisonment
On September 14, 2021, Wang was transferred to the Heilongjiang Province Women’s Prison, where her sentence is scheduled to end on July 8, 2027. She was listed among currently detained prisoners in the August 31, 2026 rights-defense roster with a seven-year sentence.
Identity note
A seven-year sentence imposed in 2004 on a man named Wang Yuhong in Qingzhou, Shandong Province, is a different person and is unrelated to this case. Same-name records from Jinzhou (Liaoning), Beijing, and Jinchang (Gansu) have also been excluded as different people.
