Person profile

Cheng Lianlian (程连连) — female Falun Gong practitioner, former police officer at the Dongfeng Motor Company Xiangyang base; of Baliwan Town, Hongan County, Huanggang City, Hubei; detained August 21, 2021 while distributing Falun Gong materials; indicted by the Hongan County Procuratorate; case transferred Macheng City Court → Huanggang City Intermediate Court; sentenced to 8 years with a 10,000-yuan fine; held at the Huanggang City Women’s Detention Center; denied family visits since arrest. Profile covers the pre-2021 persecution history of the family, the August 2021 detention, the prosecution, and the roster listing.

Source chronology

  • Before 2021 (family background). Cheng, a former police officer, and her husband were repeatedly targeted for their shared practice of Falun Gong: Cheng lost her job; the couple moved frequently to avoid detention; their 11-year-old son died in a car accident around 2010; the husband suffered a mental breakdown and was admitted to a psychiatric hospital in July 2015. Both families’ homes were raided multiple times. (Minghui, September 26, 2024; WOIPFG notice adds that the husband — whom WOIPFG names 王珏 — went insane after years of persecution and the loss of their son.)
  • 2021-08-21. Cheng and Zhang Guiying detained in Baliwan Town, Hongan County, after being reported for handing out Falun Gong flyers; homes searched the next day; books and literature confiscated; from Cheng’s home police also seize a printer, laptop, USB drive, and printing paper. (Minghui, May 28, 2022; WOIPFG.)
  • 2021-08 (days later). Through Zhang Guiying’s phone records and surveillance video, police detain Lu Hongfang; her home is searched. All three held at detention facilities in Huanggang City (Minghui reports the Tuanfeng Detention Center; WOIPFG and later Minghui report the Huanggang City Women’s Detention Center). (Minghui, May 28, 2022; WOIPFG.)
  • 2021-11/12. Indicted by the Hongan County Procuratorate (three months after arrest); case forwarded to the Macheng City Court, then reassigned to the Huanggang City Intermediate Court. (Minghui, September 26, 2024.)
  • 2022-05 (reported). Minghui reports Cheng sentenced to 7 years, Zhang Guiying to 3 years; Lu Hongfang’s sentence unclear at that time. A fourth practitioner, Wu Suhua, later implicated in the same case. (Minghui, May 28, 2022 and June 9, 2022 sentencing table: “#23 程连连 Cheng Lianlian, Female, Hubei, 7 years, Police officer.”)
  • 2024-06/11. Zhang Guiying released on bail; Wu Suhua released five months later; Lu Hongfang remained in custody at the Huanggang City Women’s Prison. (Minghui, September 26, 2024.)
  • 2024-09 (mid). New information: Cheng was actually sentenced to 8 years with a 10,000-yuan fine (correcting the earlier 7-year report); Lu Hongfang 4 years (5,000-yuan fine); Wu Suhua 3 years with 4 years probation (2,000-yuan fine); Zhang Guiying 2 years with 3 years probation (2,000-yuan fine) — all by the Huanggang Intermediate Court. Cheng’s family only confirmed her sentence in mid-September 2024; she had been denied family visits throughout. (Minghui, September 26, 2024; WOIPFG September 2024 digest.)
  • 2026-08-31. Rights Defense Network / 维权网, Issue 131 monthly report (Chinese and English editions): lists “Cheng Lianlian” among reported current-custody cases — consistent with this case, given the 8-year term.

Source grading

  • Minghui.org, “Former Police Officer Sentenced to Eight Years for Practicing Falun Gong” (September 26, 2024) — the most detailed case source; read in full. Medium for case facts (Falun Gong documentation site with an advocacy purpose; facts stated as its findings). Provided the sentence correction (7 → 8 years), the court-transfer sequence, and the family background.
  • Minghui.org, “Hongan County, Hubei Province: Three Arrested for Distributing Materials about Their Faith, Two Sentenced” (May 28, 2022) — early detention report; read via search extraction. Medium; established the August 21, 2021 facts and the initial 7-year figure (later corrected).
  • Minghui May-2022 sentencing table (via daiphap.org) — confirms the Chinese characters 程连连 paired with “Cheng Lianlian” and the “police officer” identifier. Medium; a copy of Minghui data, not independent corroboration.
  • WOIPFG notice “追查湖北省黄冈市迫害法轮功学员程连连、卢红芳等4人的责任人的通告” (2022-06-01, updated 2024-10-13) — read via search extraction. Medium; corroborates the core case (names, 8-year sentence, 10,000-yuan fine, Huanggang Women’s Detention Center) and names the officials/units it holds responsible. Same evidence lineage as Minghui for the underlying case reporting (both draw on the same practitioner-network reporting); the official-name list is its own documentation value.
  • Issue 131 report (Chinese + English editions, 2026-08-31) — the roster source; primary for the roster equation only. High for what it lists; carries no Chinese characters, region, or dates for the entry.

Conflicts and caveats

  • Husband’s name. Minghui (September 2024) names him “Wang Yu”; WOIPFG names him 王珏. The Person body reports both with the one-line caveat. No evidence of two different husbands; treat as one person with a name-form discrepancy.
  • Sentence correction. The initial 7-year report (May 2022) was corrected to 8 years (September 2024). The Person body carries the one-line history note so readers are not confused by the earlier figure.
  • Detention-facility naming. Minghui’s May 2022 report says the Tuanfeng Detention Center; later reports say the Huanggang City Women’s Detention Center. The Person body uses the later, more specific facility with the dated evidence.
  • Shared evidence lineage. Minghui and WOIPFG draw on the same practitioner-network reporting for the underlying case facts; they corroborate each other on names, dates, and sentences but are not fully independent sources. Court judgments were not independently located.
  • Charge. No official charge or statute is stated in the available sources; detention was for distributing Falun Gong materials. Do not publish a specific charge label.
  • No release or sentence-reduction evidence as of September 24, 2026; the roster (August 31, 2026) still reports her in custody. Do not infer a release date from the 8-year term.
  • Photo. No portrait located; none supplied in this package.

Evidentiary limits

No court judgment or primary court record was independently located; case facts rest on Minghui and WOIPFG (one shared practitioner-network evidence lineage). The officials and units named as responsible in the WOIPFG notice (Huanggang and Hongan political-legal officials, Baliwan Town police, the Huanggang Intermediate Court, the Huanggang Women’s Detention Center) are preserved in the linked source for publisher verification.
