Documented identity and activity

Asia Watch reported Deng Jun as one of four workers at the Changde City Water Supply Plant, all between roughly 20 and 30 years old, who organized a workers’ autonomous organization during the 1989 Democracy Movement and agitated for strikes. The report states that this activity led to a brief shutoff of Changde’s water supply.

The other named workers are Wu Wei, Xiong Jianjun, and Fu Guanghui.

Detention

According to Asia Watch, all four were arrested after June 4, 1989. In November 1989 the Changde City Public Security Bureau imposed administrative re-education through labor terms ranging from two to three years. The source does not assign an individual term to Deng Jun, so this profile does not select either figure.

Re-education through labor was administrative detention, not a criminal court sentence.

Release and later status

Asia Watch wrote in 1992 that the four might then have been free but explicitly said it had no confirmation of their release. No release date or current status is inferred here.

Evidence limits

Deng Jun’s exact age, plant position, individual arrest date, precise RTL term, facility, release date, and subsequent history remain unresolved.
