Du Jianxin (杜建新), a 51-year-old Falun Gong practitioner from Dongying City in Shandong Province, was sentenced to three and a half years in prison on May 26, 2025 for his faith. His wife, Wang Fan (王凡), received four years, and a fellow practitioner, Fu Jian (付健), three and a half years. All three appealed, and the Dongying City Intermediate Court rejected the appeals.
Du and Wang were arrested on November 29, 2023, during a police sweep of local practitioners ordered by the Dongying City and Binhai police departments. Minghui.org, citing an insider, reported that police had monitored the practitioners for about a month beforehand — placing tracking devices on their cars and sending agents to follow and photograph them. The couple was held at the Binhai Detention Center, where the family’s lawyer was barred from visiting; detention staff said approval was needed from the Dongying City Police Department.
The Dongying District Court held four hearings — on July 3, October 16, and October 21, 2024, and May 19, 2025 — with lawyers entering not-guilty pleas for their clients. Du and Wang had worked at the Longkou Offshore Oil Shipping Company, Du as a sailor and Wang as a Russian-language document translator. Minghui reports that both were repeatedly targeted for their faith before this case, with Du held in brainwashing centers multiple times and sentenced to ten years after a 2011 arrest. In an update dated January 4, 2026, the World Organization to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong reported that after October 20, 2025, Du and Fu Jian were transferred to Shandong Prison while Wang Fan was sent to Shandong Women’s Prison. No reporting after that date has been found; his current status is unconfirmed.
