Person profile
Du Jianxin (杜建新) — male, 51 (2025), Falun Gong practitioner of Dongying City, Shandong; husband of Wang Fan (王凡). Arrested November 29, 2023 in a coordinated police sweep; held at the Binhai Detention Center; tried four times by the Dongying District Court; sentenced May 26, 2025 to 3 years and 6 months; appeal rejected; reported transferred to Shandong Prison after October 20, 2025. Profile covers: the sweep and surveillance, detention and lawyer-access restrictions, the four hearings, the verdict and appeal, the prison transfer, and his reported earlier persecution history.
Identification
The identity is confirmed by two independent sources whose anchors fully agree: the World Organization to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong’s Chinese-language case file names 杜建新 and documents the Dongying case (wife 王凡, co-defendant 付健, 2023-11-29 arrest, Binhai Detention Center, four Dongying District Court hearings, 2025-05-26 sentencing to 3 years 6 months); the Minghui English report covers the same case with the same facts under “Du Jianxin.” No conflicting identity evidence was found.
Source chronology
- November 29, 2023 — arrest. The Dongying City Police Department and the Binhai Police Department, with subordinate stations, carry out a sweep of local Falun Gong practitioners. Du Jianxin and his wife Wang Fan are taken to the Binhai Detention Center; Fu Jian is taken to the Dongying City Detention Center. Minghui, citing an insider, reports a month of prior surveillance including car tracking devices and agents following and photographing practitioners. (Minghui 2025-05-31; WOIPFG case file.)
- May 2024 — family loss. Minghui reports that Du’s mother, distraught over the arrests of her son and daughter-in-law, passed away in May 2024. The Binhai Detention Center bars the family’s lawyer from visiting, saying approval is needed from the Dongying City Police Department. Wang Fan goes on a hunger strike in protest and is force-fed. (Minghui 2025-05-31, source-attributed.)
- July 3, 2024 — first hearing at the Dongying District Court. Presiding judge Liu Nan does not allow the practitioners or their lawyers to present defense statements. (Minghui 2025-05-31.)
- October 16 and 21, 2024 — second and third hearings. Defense statements are allowed; lawyers enter not-guilty pleas. Prosecutor Wang Shasha presents as key evidence interrogation records of another local practitioner, Liu Chunrong, allegedly coerced after she was abused at the Jishu Brainwashing Center; the defense challenges the admissibility of this evidence. (Minghui 2025-05-31, source-attributed.)
- May 19, 2025 — fourth hearing; the practitioners and lawyers again demand acquittal. (Minghui 2025-05-31.)
- May 26, 2025 — sentencing. The Dongying District Court sentences Du Jianxin to 3 years 6 months, Wang Fan to 4 years, and Fu Jian to 3 years 6 months. All three appeal. At the time of the report they remain at the Binhai Detention Center. (Minghui 2025-05-31.)
- After October 20, 2025 — prison transfer. WOIPFG’s January 4, 2026 update reports the Dongying City Intermediate Court rejected the appeals, and that Wang Fan was sent to Shandong Women’s Prison while Du Jianxin and Fu Jian were sent to Shandong Prison. (WOIPFG case file, updated 2026-01-04.)
- Earlier history (source-attributed). Minghui reports that Du and Wang worked at the Longkou Offshore Oil Shipping Company (Du a sailor, Wang a Russian-language document translator); that since 1999 the couple has been repeatedly arrested; that Wang was sentenced to 3.5 years on June 5, 2002 and given a 3-year labor camp term in 2008, extended by another 3 years for refusing to renounce Falun Gong; and that Du was held in brainwashing centers multiple times and sentenced to 10 years following his arrest in January 2011. These claims come from a single source and are not independently corroborated; they are preserved here as reported, not as established fact.
