Gao Yingjia / 高颖佳

Gao Yingjia (高颖佳), a pastor of Beijing’s Zion Church, is one of eight church leaders reported detained since October 2025 in a nationwide crackdown on the unregistered Protestant congregation. As of September 21, 2026, Fortify Rights reported that he remained in custody in Beihai, Guangxi, awaiting trial.

Arrest and custody

Fortify Rights reported that coordinated raids on Zion Church leaders took place in October 2025 and that Gao was among those detained and transferred to Beihai. Its September 2026 investigation reported that male detainees were being held at Beihai Second Detention Center.

Charges and proceedings

ChinaAid reported that the remaining eight detainees faced fraud and illegal-business-operations charges related to the church’s ministry and online religious activities. It reported that the case was transferred to the People’s Procuratorate of Yinhai District on June 18, 2026 and brought before the People’s Court of Yinhai District on July 17, 2026. A trial scheduled for August 14–18 was delayed after defense lawyers objected that they lacked adequate time to review the files. A conflicting report said a trial occurred; no completed trial or verdict is treated here as verified.

Reported detention conditions

Gao’s wife, Geng Pengpeng, told Fortify Rights that detention conditions were overcrowded and that her husband experienced serious health problems without adequate care. These are family-reported claims and are not presented as independent medical findings.
