Source provenance and limits

The core facts of the 2024 detention are established by a Rights Defense Network field report (April 5, 2024), an established independent Chinese-language rights monitor, and corroborated by the prisoner database record. The secret-trial and release claims rest on a single cited Epoch Times report that could not be opened from the research environment; the release is independently consistent with dated post-January-2025 accounts of her petitioning activity, but those accounts are activist social posts of limited reliability. The August 2026 roster classification as “detained awaiting trial” contradicts the release reporting; no source explains the discrepancy, and no evidence of re-detention was located. No official statement from Henan authorities on Hu’s case was found.
