Li Yuandong (李源东) is identified in a March 2026 notice by the World Organization to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong (WOIPFG) as a Guangdong Falun Gong practitioner serving an eight-year-six-month prison sentence. The Rights Defense Network’s August 31, 2026 custody report separately lists “Li Yuandong” among reported current-custody cases.
According to WOIPFG, Li was 59 at the time of its notice, was a university graduate and former civil servant in Maoming, Guangdong, and later worked in Guangzhou. The organization reports that police in Guangzhou’s Haizhu District arrested him on July 9, 2019 and that the Haizhu District Court sentenced him on August 31, 2021 to eight years and six months in prison.
WOIPFG reports that Li was transferred in March 2022 to Guangdong Beijiang Prison, Ward 9. Its March 2026 notice alleges prolonged shackling and forced posture in 2022 and additional restrictions and mistreatment beginning in July 2025. These allegations come from WOIPFG and have not been independently verified through court, prison, medical, or other reporting located for this profile.
The Rights Defense Network’s Issue 131 report dated August 31, 2026 lists “Li Yuandong” among reported people in custody, consistent with the continued-imprisonment account. The criminal charge, any later facility change, and a release date are not established in the prepared sources and are not inferred.
The Chinese form 李源东 comes from the WOIPFG notice; the roster provides only the romanized form “Li Yuandong.” Because other Chinese-character combinations can share the same pinyin, this character identification remains tied specifically to the Guangdong/Beijiang Prison case described by WOIPFG.
