Liu Shuguang / 刘曙光 — Changsha Student Imprisoned After 1989

Liu Shuguang (刘曙光) was a student at an electric-power tertiary institution in Changsha, Hunan, who was imprisoned in connection with political writing and campus activity following the 1989 democracy movement. The surviving public record is limited, so this profile distinguishes documented claims from unresolved details.

Documented record

A Hunan political-prisoner roster and later historical synthesis identify Liu as a student at a Changsha electric-power institution. The institution’s exact historical name is unresolved: sources render it as Changsha Electric Power College (长沙电力学院) and Changsha Water Conservancy and Electric Power Normal College (长沙水利电力师范学院).

The sources report that Liu took part in protest-related writing, leafleting and slogan activity around the 1989 movement and continued campus political activity after June 1989. A later account reports that police entered the school on April 25, 1990, arrested several students and questioned others.

Liu is reported to have been convicted of counterrevolutionary propaganda and incitement and sentenced to four years’ imprisonment. A later synthesis identifies the sentencing court as the Changsha Intermediate People’s Court. No judgment has yet been located, so the charge, court and term should be treated as probable rather than court-document verified.

Current status

Unknown. No reliable release record, prison record, post-release biography or current-status source has yet been located. FreeChina does not infer release or present status from the nominal sentence length.

Evidence limits

The detailed allegation narrative and exact April 25, 1990 arrest date depend on a secondary narrative lineage. The precise institution name is unresolved. Birth year, prison, release date and post-release life remain unknown.
