Peng Liangkun — Media Profile & Archive

Media Profile & Archive

This archive accompanies the canonical profile of Peng Liangkun, a factory worker in Xiangxiang County, Hunan, documented in contemporary human-rights reporting on repression after the 1989 democracy movement.

Documented record

Asia Watch reported that Peng was 25 years old and worked at a large factory in Xiangxiang County. During the 1989 democracy movement, authorities accused him of traveling to different places to encourage unrest and of disseminating information heard from overseas broadcasters including Voice of America and the BBC. These are authorities’ allegations as reported by Asia Watch, not adjudicated findings.

Asia Watch reported that Peng was arrested after June 4, 1989 and that in November 1989 the Xiangxiang County Public Security Bureau imposed three years of re-education through labor. The measure was administrative detention, not a criminal court sentence.

Evidence limits

Current status: unknown. The source reviewed here does not establish a confirmed release date, detention facility, later activity, or present whereabouts. A nominal three-year term should not be treated as proof of actual release.
