Su Zesheng (苏泽生) — Media Archive: Reporting on the 2024 Kunming Case

This archive gathers the available reporting on Su Zesheng (苏泽生), a Falun Gong practitioner from Kunming, Yunnan Province, whose 2023 detention and 2024 sentencing have been documented by an advocacy organization. The case account below comes from the World Organization to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong (WOIPFG), a New York–based advocacy group investigating the persecution of Falun Gong; no court record, official statement, or independent international-media coverage of his case has been located.

Case chronology

  • November 15, 2023: Police from the Panlong District public-security domestic-security unit and the Lishutou police station entered the home of Su Zesheng and his wife Zhang Zhenyi in Kunming’s Panlong District, searched it, and took the couple — along with their son Su Kun, daughter-in-law Zhang Xiaodan, and visiting practitioners Pi Fenghua and Chen Shunzu — to the Donghua police station for questioning. The son, daughter-in-law, and Chen were later released; Zhang Zhenyi and Pi Fenghua were released on bail the next day; Su was held at the Panlong District detention center. (WOIPFG, May 17, 2024)
  • Early March 2024: The Panlong District public-security bureau submitted the couple’s case to the Xishan District Procuratorate in Kunming; a prosecutor approved the indictment. The family’s complaints to the procuratorate’s complaint and discipline offices, and their request to meet its leadership, went unanswered. (WOIPFG, May 17, 2024)
  • December 20, 2024: The Xishan District Court tried Su Zesheng, refusing to allow his privately hired lawyer to appear; Su protested with silence and refused to cooperate. (WOIPFG, May 17, 2024 / updated April 10, 2026)
  • December 21, 2024: The court sentenced Su to four years in prison with a 40,000-yuan fine. He appealed; the Kunming Intermediate Court rejected the appeal. (WOIPFG, updated April 10, 2026)
  • Second half of 2025: Transferred to Yunnan No. 1 Prison. (WOIPFG, updated April 10, 2026)
  • August 28, 2025: His wife Zhang Zhenyi was sentenced to two years with a 20,000-yuan fine by the same court. (WOIPFG, updated April 10, 2026)
  • April 2, 2026: Zhang Zhenyi was transferred to Yunnan No. 2 Women’s Prison. (WOIPFG, updated April 10, 2026)

Evidentiary limitations

  • The WOIPFG notice is the only detailed case account located; it is a single-ecosystem advocacy source, not independently corroborated by court records, state media, or international media.
  • Terms such as “illegal” and “unjust” in the source document are the source’s characterizations; where the Person profile reports the sentence, it reports what the sources say.
  • The prior detention, the pension-denial account, and the mistreatment framing are single-ecosystem accounts, not independently verified.
  • No formal charge is stated by any source; no charge is published.
  • The roster custody classification is dated August 31, 2026; the prison-transfer detail is dated April 10, 2026 (notice update). Neither establishes status after those dates.

Sentence-group note

Earlier reads of the Issue 131 roster (September 25, 2026) recorded 苏泽生 in the roster’s “4 years and 2 months” group; the live Chinese edition read on September 26, 2026 places him (with 何新芳 and 李振金) in the “4 years, 171 people” group, consistent with WOIPFG’s 4-year report. Both readings are recorded here; the current edition is used.
