Su Zesheng (苏泽生): Falun Gong Practitioner from Kunming, Sentenced in 2024

Su Zesheng (苏泽生) is a Falun Gong practitioner from Kunming in Yunnan Province who, at about eighty years old, was sentenced to prison in December 2024 for his religious practice. According to the World Organization to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong (WOIPFG), Su and his wife Zhang Zhenyi (张贞一), then 79, lived in Kunming’s Panlong District. On November 15, 2023, police from the Panlong District public-security domestic-security unit and the Lishutou police station entered their home, searched it, and took the couple — along with their son Su Kun, their daughter-in-law Zhang Xiaodan, and two visiting practitioners, Pi Fenghua and Chen Shunzu — to the Donghua police station for questioning. The son, daughter-in-law, and Chen were later released; Zhang Zhenyi and Pi Fenghua were released on bail the next day; Su Zesheng was held at the Panlong District detention center.

WOIPFG reports that in early March 2024 the Panlong District public-security bureau submitted the couple’s case to the Xishan District Procuratorate in Kunming, and that a prosecutor there approved the indictment. The family complained about the handling of the case to the procuratorate’s complaint and discipline offices and asked to meet its leadership, without result, according to the account.

On December 20, 2024, the Xishan District Court tried Su Zesheng, refusing to allow his privately hired lawyer to appear, and the following day sentenced him to four years in prison with a 40,000-yuan fine, WOIPFG reports. During the trial Su protested with silence and refused to cooperate. He appealed; the Kunming Intermediate Court rejected the appeal. In the second half of 2025 he was transferred to Yunnan No. 1 Prison.

His wife Zhang Zhenyi was sentenced to two years with a 20,000-yuan fine by the same court on August 28, 2025, and was transferred to Yunnan No. 2 Women’s Prison on April 2, 2026, according to the same organization’s updated notice.

WOIPFG’s account says Su had previously been sentenced for practicing Falun Gong, and that when he reached retirement age his work unit refused to process his retirement, leaving him without a pension or medical insurance for nearly twenty years; approaching eighty, he was still supporting himself with odd jobs.

A prisoner roster compiled by the Chinese rights-defense website 维权网 (Rights Defense Network) in its Issue 131 monthly report dated August 31, 2026 lists 苏泽生 among prisoners serving fixed-term sentences, in the group classified as sentenced to four years. The roster’s listing is dated; no court judgment has been made public.

Identity note: This profile concerns 苏泽生 of Kunming, Yunnan. Other Su-surname entries in the roster (He Xinfang, Li Zhenjin, and others in the same sentence group) are separate people — roster adjacency is not an identity anchor; none are merged here.
