Yang Mingzhen (杨明珍), a Falun Gong practitioner from Weifang City, Shandong Province, was reported sentenced to four years in prison with a 10,000-yuan fine on May 15, 2023, by the Wulian County Court, according to the Falun Gong-affiliated outlet Minghui.org.
Yang, a native of Weifang, had been staying in Wulian County — which is administered by Rizhao City — when she was arrested on October 10, 2022, along with four fellow practitioners: Li Fengying, Wang Hongwu, Zheng Yunmei, and Wang Shihua. All five were interrogated and then taken to the Rizhao City Detention Center. The Wulian County Court held joint hearings in their cases on April 28 and May 8, 2023. Two lawyers entered not-guilty pleas and objected that the police had searched the practitioners’ homes without proper warrants and had not verified the confiscated items with their clients. Minghui reported that the prosecutor could not present solid evidence of how the practitioners had broken the law, yet the judge convicted them seven days after the second hearing: Li received eight years, Wang Hongwu four and a half, Yang and Zheng four years each, and Wang Shihua one and a half.
Earlier reports also name a practitioner called Yang Mingzhen in Weifang’s Hanting District — among practitioners taken away on July 20, 1999 and held for over 11 days, and again among five practitioners arrested there on November 29, 2008. The available reporting does not explicitly confirm these are the same person as the 2022 defendant.
