Case summary
Yang Shuyu (杨淑玉) is a Falun Gong practitioner from Dalian City, Liaoning Province, who was sentenced to three years in prison in November 2024 for practicing Falun Gong, according to reporting by Minghui.org, a Falun Gong-affiliated information network.
Arrest and prosecution
Minghui reports that Yang, then 64, was arrested on February 23, 2024, along with fellow practitioner Wang Jian, 55. Officers from the Lijia Street Police Station raided Wang’s home after installing a tracking device on his car; they confiscated a computer and printer, which were later used as prosecution evidence. Their cases were submitted to the Ganjingzi District Procuratorate, and they stood trial at the Ganjingzi District Court on November 2, 2024. Minghui reports that Yang was convicted and sentenced to three years several weeks later. Wang Jian was sentenced to four years and appealed; he held a hunger strike in protest and at one point fell into critical condition before being resuscitated, according to the same report.
