Yu Baiqing / 于柏青 — Political Prisoner Profile

Yu Baiqing (于柏青) is a Falun Gong practitioner from Qiqihar, in China’s northeastern Heilongjiang Province, who is serving an eight-year prison sentence handed down in 2022. His case is one of the longer sentences recorded in the 2026 tally of Falun Gong practitioners imprisoned in China.

Yu began practicing Falun Gong in 1992, the year the discipline was first taught publicly, and attended a lecture series given by its founder in Qiqihar. In 2003 he was sentenced to three years in prison for talking to people about the practice. He left his home district of Tie Feng in 2011 and settled in Jiaozhou City, in the coastal province of Shandong.

On June 2, 2021, officers from the Beiguan Police Station detained Yu at his rented home in Jiaozhou during a city-wide roundup in which dozens of local practitioners were taken into custody in a single day. Computers, printers, and other belongings were confiscated from his room. He was held at the Duchun Detention Center in Jiaozhou, and his arrest was formally approved the following month. His lawyers argued the evidence did not support the charges; after the case was transferred between procuratorates, it was re-filed as a group case. On March 18, 2022, the Huangdao District Court in Qingdao tried him by remote video, where both Yu and his lawyer entered not-guilty pleas. On April 15, 2022, the court sentenced him to eight years in prison and imposed a 50,000-yuan fine.

Yu’s documented prison term runs to June 2029. The exact facility where he is held has not been reported.

Status note: As of the latest verified records (2022 case reporting; 2026 prisoner tally), Yu Baiqing is in custody serving his sentence. No release has been reported. His precise whereabouts are not publicly documented.
