Yu Shuhui (余树惠) is a Falun Gong practitioner from Tianchi Village, Shiban Town, in the Chongqing high-tech zone. Born in 1965, she began practicing Falun Gong in 1998. According to the Chinese Human Rights Defenders (CHRD) Prisoners of Conscience database, she is currently serving a three-and-a-half-year prison sentence at the Chongqing Women’s Prison, with a stated release date of July 22, 2027. Third imprisonment
On the evening of January 23, 2024, four plainclothes officers entered Yu’s home in Tianchi Village without identifying themselves or presenting legal documents, according to Minghui, a Falun Gong-affiliated news outlet. Yu and her husband were taken to the Shiban Town police station; officers later searched her home. Yu was detained at the Dadukou District Detention Center in Chongqing.
On May 13, 2024, the Jiulongpo District Procuratorate indicted Yu; the indictment was later amended. On December 27, 2024, the Jiulongpo District Court sentenced her to three years and six months in prison. Yu appealed to the Chongqing Intermediate Court, which upheld the sentence. Her family later received a prison notice confirming that she was being held at the Chongqing Women’s Prison. The charge under which she was convicted has not been reported. CHRD likewise lists the charge as unknown.
Earlier imprisonments
- In 2000, she was sentenced to three years after a home raid led by the chief of the Shiban Town police station, according to Minghui.
- On May 13, 2012, she was arrested in Luohuang Town, Jiangjin District, while distributing Shen Yun DVDs and was sentenced to three years and six months, according to Minghui.
Minghui also reports that Yu was detained multiple times and held in a “brainwashing class” after July 1999. These details have not been independently verified. (Minghui also renders her name as 余素会 — a variant rendering within that source, not a separate person. She is not the same person as Yu Shenghua / 余胜华 or Du Shuhui / 杜淑慧.)
