Zou Feiyu (邹飞宇) — Person Profile
Zou Feiyu (邹飞宇) is a Falun Gong practitioner from Kunshan City, Jiangsu Province. Minghui.org, a Falun Gong community publication, reports that he was arrested on July 10, 2022 while distributing Falun Gong informational materials, tried in May 2023 without his wife being notified, and sentenced to four and a half years in prison — a judgment his wife learned of only on January 2, 2024, when she visited him at a detention center and was told he would be transferred to a prison the next day. This is his third prison term, following an eight-year term (2001–2006) and a five-year term (2010–2015); in October 2024 he was reported to have been admitted to Wuxi Prison and denied family visits. The Rights Defense Network’s (维权网) monthly political-prisoners report (Issue 131, August 31, 2026) lists him in its 4-years-6-months-sentence band, confirming he remains in custody serving his term as of that date.
The case
According to Minghui.org, Mr. Zou was arrested on the morning of July 10, 2022 while distributing Falun Gong informational materials. Officers from the Yushan Town Police Station raided his home and confiscated more than 50 Falun Gong books and other materials. His wife Chen Shasha was arrested later the same day after a surveillance camera recorded her accompanying him; she was interrogated at the Changjiang Police Station and released on bail. Mr. Zou remained in custody, and a formal arrest warrant was issued on August 18, 2022. His wife was not notified of his trial, which the publication says was held in May 2023. On January 2, 2024, his wife was asked to visit him at a detention center, where she learned he had been sentenced to four and a half years and would be transferred to a prison the next day; the detention center guards would not say which prison. His wife was separately sentenced to one year on an unknown date; she was allowed to serve her term outside prison while recovering from heart surgery, the publication reports. Falun Gong (法轮功), also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline combining meditation exercises with moral teachings centered on truthfulness, compassion, and forbearance; it has been suppressed in China since July 1999, and practitioners detained for their faith are commonly prosecuted under the charge of “using a cult organization to undermine law enforcement.”
Earlier targeting
Mr. Zou is a native of Pingjiang City, Hunan Province, admitted to Northeast Normal University in 1993; he began practicing Falun Gong in November 1996 and, after graduating in July 1997, became a teacher at a middle school in Kunshan City, Jiangsu Province, marrying his first wife in December 1998 (a son was born in May 2000). On January 5, 2001, Mr. Zou and his wife were arrested after police discovered they were printing informational materials about Falun Gong; he was sentenced to eight years in prison and fired from his teaching job, and was released on November 6, 2006. He and his first wife divorced in January 2007. In 2010, during the Shanghai World Expo security drive, Minghui reported that “Zou Feiyu from Kunshan, Jiangsu” was arrested on April 27, 2010 at the Shanghai Train Station; the publication’s later account of his case dates this arrest to April 28, 2010 and says he was sentenced to five years, released on April 27, 2015. The one-day variance between the two Minghui reports is recorded as stated by each source.
Status and evidentiary limits
In October 2024, Minghui.org reported that Mr. Zou had been admitted to Wuxi Prison after his conviction and had been denied family visits. The Rights Defense Network’s Issue 131 monthly report (August 31, 2026), which lists 1,638 reported current-custody political prisoners and prisoners of conscience, places 邹飞宇 in its 判刑4年6个月,72人 (sentenced to 4 years and 6 months, 72 people) group; the English edition confirms “Zou Feiyu” in the parallel band. The band is a national aggregation of same-sentence-length cases, not a joint case; its neighbors are not co-defendants. No court document for the 2024 judgment and no detention-location update after the October 2024 report have been found. No release date is computed here, because the exact sentence-commencement date, detention credit, and any reduction are unknown. The case chronology rests on Minghui.org, a Falun Gong community publication whose reporting is partisan — presenting detentions as persecution and reflecting the Falun Gong community’s perspective; its factual claims are recorded as reported by that publication, with no court document, state-media account, or independent international-media reporting found. The Chinese characters of his wives’ names are not given in any source found and are not supplied here. Do-not-merge: 邹飞宇 is not 邹巍 (Zou Wei, the Hangzhou democracy activist), not any of his surname-index neighbors (邹斌, 邹华香, 邹家成, 邹幸彤), and not the unrelated namesake 邹镇豪 (Zou Zhenhao) — never merge on surname alone.
