Memorial: Lives Lost

This memorial preserves the names and documented stories of people killed during suppression, judicially executed, deceased in custody, or lost following documented denial of medical care, while separately honoring movement contributors who later died.

Died in exile / overseas contributors: This class includes people who contributed to the democracy or human-rights movement and later died in exile or abroad. Inclusion here does not imply that the death was caused by state action.

Memorial Collections

• 1989 Tiananmen Massacre Victims — documented students, workers, residents, bystanders, medical personnel and other civilians killed during the June 1989 crackdown.
• Executed Political, Religious and Rights Prisoners — documented executions by PRC state authorities where political, religious, democracy-movement, human-rights or other rights-related context is established.
• Deaths in Custody / Following Detention — cases where custody, alleged mistreatment, or denial or delay of medical care is materially documented.
• Deceased Democracy & Human-Rights Figures — movement figures who later died naturally, in exile, or abroad; inclusion does not imply state causation.
• Other Victims of Political Persecution — documented deaths that do not fit cleanly within the categories above.
• Disappeared — death unconfirmed — retained separately until death is established by adequate evidence.

The archive will not attribute a death to state action without adequate evidence. Disputed identity, date or cause remains clearly labeled or withheld.
